The winner doesn't have to be directly involved with football to receive it. One such notable non-footballing personality was Nelson Mandela who won it for bringing South Africa back to international football.
HM Sultan Ahmad Shah needs no introduction, he was the longest serving AFC President. The current AFC HQ was built under his leadership and I believe the land is still under the name of HM Sultan Ahmad Shah.
IN 2011, Sultan Ahmad Shah was elected as Asean Football Federation (AFF) President.
At the AFC Congress this year, the Pahang ruler was also bestowed "Diamond of Asia Award" by the Asian Football Confederation.
