The draw for the Yonex-Sunrise BWF World Junior Championships held yesterday saw a favourable draw for Malaysia after being drawn against less formidable opponents.
Malaysia who host the championships at the Suka Menanti Stadium here from Oct 23 to Nov 1, were drawn in Group Z, together with Singapore, Japan, France and Cambodia.
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) treasurer Datuk Lim Teong Kiat who is also the Badminton World Federation (BWF) treasurer said 22 countries, including Malaysia, have confirmed their participation for the team events while entries for individual events has yet to be closed.
"So far individuals from 35 countries have confirmed their participation but since the closing date is on Oct 9, there may be more entries," he told reporters here Wednesday.
Defending champion China were drawn in Group W and have Indonesia, Russia, Macau and New Zealand for company.
In the last championships, Malaysia finished third after beating India.
