Mighty Egypt squashed Malaysia out of the 13th World Junior Women's Team Squash Championship today, cutting short Malaysia's dream of a podium finish.
The Egyptian girls scored a straight 3-0 victory over Malaysia in the quarter-final match, played at the Tamil Nadu Squash Rackets Association hall in Chennai.In the first match, Nour El Sherbini stopped Tan Yan Xin -- 9-11, 11-6, 11-2, 11-1 and Heba El Torky tamed Low Wee Nee 11-5, 11-3, 11-5.In the last match Nour El Tayeb subdued Nessrine Ariffin 11-1, 11-9 without playing the third set.
In another crucial match, Canada almost upset second seeded and host India, but the Indian youngsters managed to come back from a 0-1 deficit to a 2-1 victory to secure a place in the semifinals.Egypt will now meet the United States in the semi-finals and in the other set of semis, India will play against Hong Kong tomorrow.Malaysia and England will play for the fifth and sixth placing while Canada and New Zealand will contest for the seventh and eight spots.
