With a total
of eight teams participating in the tournament, TOT United A hit if off right
from the start with a 7-4 victory over Cyber FC before defeating YSFC 4-2 in
the semi-finals to book a grand finale clash with One United, whom themselves have
defeated Red Galacticos 3-1 before seeing out a nervy 4-3 win over Hang FC.
The Tango
League, unlike any ordinary futsal competition, is a platform to expose
aspiring young footballers or football enthusiasts to stadium match-days’
atmosphere while recreating professional playing conditions thus handing
participants invaluable playing experience. On top of that, players of
participating teams were equipped with adidas apparels.
Similar to the
Bangkok, Paris, London and Berlin editions, this league is not just a series of
events as it promotes community engagement and also focuses on creating the
next generation of brand influencers through social media among other aspects.
Adidas-sponsored
national team player, Khairul Helmi, believes that the tournament should be
held annually as it brings a positive impact especially on the younger
generation.
“For me the
Tango League is a great initiative for youths especially as it helps keep them
actively involved in sports. The other challenges at the venue such as the Play
Station 4 Booth and Tango Pro Live Instagram Booth made the event more
interesting and fun,” said Khairul Helmi, who is also Kedah’s skipper.
Another
national team player at the venue was Perak’s captain and centerback, Shahrom
Kalam who positively reviewed the tournament organized by the number one sports
brand in the world.
“Tango
League is an ideal way for young players to showcase their talents as there
were a few outstanding players from my observation. adidas as a famous sport
brand should consider in organizing more tournaments like this in the future,”
said Shahrom.
Winners were
rewarded with the cash prize of RM5, 000 while the runners-up take home the
cash prize of RM3, 000.
TOT United A
player, Mohd Shahril Anuar walked away with an adidas boot deal in hand after
voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) player by Shahrom Kalam and Khairul Helmi who
were the panel of judges for the inaugural adidas Tango League.
However, the
excitement of the Tango League did not stop there as participants and supporters
alike were treated to a host of other on-site activities such as the Play
Station 4 FIFA 2017 Game, Tango Pro mini drill activities (One-on-One
Challenge, Hit the Target, Juggling Challenge) and the Tango Pro Live Instagram
Booth.
