WHY ARE YOU SILENT ?

How come the organisers are yet to make a statement on this issue ? Are they trying to figure out on how to make a statement, it is learnt that the organization was poor, maybe Standard Chartered should sent the Malaysian organisers to observe the Singapore Standard Chartered Run which attracts 60,000 runners. Can the Sports Commissioner office investigate ?

Today at 13:55(27/06/2010)

I would like to share a tragic incident that happened at Standard Chartered KL Marathon today…

When i was running my final 2 km on the 10km… as i was running along the road in front of Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, i saw a guy was sitting on the road side then soon enough he collapsed…

this incident attracted my attention as a guy(a training doctor, named Irkhan) that was trying to help him was shouting for medic..
as i was a trained EFR, i ran over to see what is happening.. (it was around 1 hour into the race for 10km runners)

i got to know that the guy (named Lim) has collapsed and was having seizure.. we tried to place him in recovery position… he was breathing very heavily and shortly and he was also biting his teeth very very hard… i was afraid that he will hurt himself (with either biting his own tongue or he closed up his airway).. so i tried to open up his jaw and tried to communicate wif him to have him relax and breath easily.. he then slowed down his breathing and taking deeper breath…

another lady (lady A) came to help and constantly monitor on his pulse… and Dr. Visva (was another participant in the run) came over to help…

Then suddenly, his pulse was gone… then we lied him flat and started on CPR procedures… we constantly check on his pulse to check whether his pulse has come back.. we did chest compression and also mouth-to-mouth breathing to Lim…
as we were doing the CPR procedures, we did not sight medic anywhere.. and we tried to shout as loud as possible for medic…

After awhile into the CPR procedures, "lady A" said that she could feel his pulse but was very weak.. then we stopped the CPR procedures to see whether he regain consciousness or not…
After i stopped the chest compression on Lim, i started shouting for medic services again with the hope that a medic services is nearby and heard us.. but unfortunately not… we only sighted 3 DBKL Officers(with big motorcycles) just stood by the road side and just stare… the did not come over to help or to check out what happened… (it was around 10 minutes that Lim collapse and had seizure)…

after a moment, Lim loose his pulse again.. we started CPR procedures again.. we still did not sight an ambulance or any EMS(Emergency Medical Services) around… after approximately 30 compression, Lim regained his pulse but was very very weak.. and yet.. there was still no ambulance or EMS sighted… and DBKL officers still stood there and did not came over to help… so I informed a passer by to run to the officers to tell them to call for an EMS soonest possible...

after we performed CPR procedures on Lim for the the third time, finally a St. John ambulance came after around 15 - 20 minutes after Lim collapsed…

we let the EMS officers to take over the CPR and First Aid… Dr. Visva asked whether do they have the AED(Automated External Defibrillator)… one of the person from the EMS said that they do not have it.. then I asked whether do they have a face mask with pump.. they also did not have it there… THEY PRACTICALLY HAVE NOTHING IN THE AMBULANCE!!!!!!!! -.-"

EMS took him and speed their way to HKL…

we were later informed that the Response time for EMS is 3 minutes but it took them almost 20 minutes to arrive… and later.. as I was reading through the Runners Guide that was provided in our running kit…
There is a statement (at page 15) that states that "Medical Assistance - Medical Aid is available every 4km and at the Finish Area. Due to runner's physical condition, Medical Officials are authorized to stop runners and remove their timing chip"…

every 4KM MY ROYAL ASS.. I did not see any first aider, ambulance or any sort of medical officials along my 10km route… and if 4km was true.. it definitely will not take them SO LONG to arrive...

I got a call from Dr. Visva a moment ago.. he went to HKL to check out the condition of Lim and he informed me that Lim have passed away on his arrival to the hospital… T__T

Lim is only into his 20's and was running the 10KM distance…

Death mars KL marathon

IS THIS A CASE OF POOR ORGANIZATION ?

More than 16,500 people took part in the Standard Chartered KL Marathon which took the runners on a route from Dataran Merdeka past some of the city’s historical landmarks.

The event not only attracted marathon enthusiasts but also entire families who took part for fun.

However, the event was marred by the death of a runner, Lim Wei Yee, 25.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Zulkarnain Abdul Rahman said Lim died on his way to the hospital and that his body had been sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post-mortem.

He said the police had yet to receive any report alleging negligence on the part of the organisers over Lim’s demise, which had been classified as sudden death.

Earlier, software engineer Toh Yit Ming, 26, said he was running his final lap on the 10km run when he saw a participant, whom he only knew as “Lim”, sitting on the roadside in front of City Hall before collapsing.

“He was having a seizure. A few runners tried to put him in a recovery position,” he said in a telephone interview, adding that he had told Lim to relax and breathe deeply as he was short of breath and clenching his teeth.

Toh said he, a doctor taking part in the event, and another participant had taken turns to apply cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Lim when his pulse stopped.

He claimed no medical services arrived until about 15 to 20 minutes later.

“I am disappointed that the ambulance came late when the Runners’ Guide had stated that response time for emergency medical services would be three minutes and that medical aid was available every 5km of the marathon stretch,” said Toh, adding that three City Hall officers standing nearby with their motorcycles had not bothered to help the group.

He said he had to tell a passer-by to inform the officers to call the ambulance.

Toh also alleged that when the ambulance arrived, it did not have an automated external defibrillator or a face mask with pump (to pump in more air into the lungs).

AZRAAI SUSPENDED?

AZRAAI Khor Abdullah was suspended as the National Under-21 coach by FAM. It is learnt that national coach K.Rajagopal will take over for the moment till they find a new coach, but I think eventually this team will be managed by King Raja.

But why was Azraai suspended, it is reported that his assistant is also suspended. I knew for a fact that there was a lot of problem in Slovakia. There was no harmony in the team. But then again nothing was done then. so why now ?

But I believe it was only after Dato Seri Redzuan visit, issues became more visible and there were some issues that could not be swept under the carpet.

FAM technical committee meets next Thursday, let's see what they have to say.

TENGKU ABDULLAH TO MAKE A COMEBACK !

Talk is rife that Tengku Abdullah Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah will make a return to Malaysian football.

With nominations closing tomorrow, I have been told that about 17 state FAs’ are supporting his return. Seven states have already nominated him for one of the Deputy President’s seats.

It is understood that Khairy Jamaluddin, the incumbent is not seeking re-election which only means that Tengku Abdullah is expected to make it without a contest.

Many in FA Malaysia want Tengku Abdullah as he still has connections with AFC and FIFA. He is a FIFA technical committee member and also sits in AFC.

The FA Malaysia has two deputy Presidents and the other incumbent Datuk Redzuan Ahmad of Perlis will have to starve-off the challenges from Tan Sri Annuar Musa (Kelantan) and Datuk Mokhtar (Selangor).

The odds are stacked against Datuk Redzuan retaining his seat.

NO LICENCE ISSUED !

“I have already made my statement, no more statement on this. No, the licence has not been issued,” he told reporters during press conference at the Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Department here.

The Finance Minister has been elusive on the sports betting licence after it was reported that Berjaya Corporation had confirmed that the Treasury has approved the licence for Ascot Sports in its filing to Bursa Malaysia about its acquisition of the company.

“The Minister of Finance has given its approval for the re-issuance to Ascot of the licence to carry out sports betting operations upon certain terms and conditions,” the announcement wrote.

However the Treasury had earlier denied that the government awarded betting licence to Ascot Sports.

The Finance Ministry told parliament on June 7 that government has not yet concluded its discussions and terms regarding the legalisation of gambling.

“The government has yet to issue a license to Ascot Sports Sdn Bhd for bookie operation in Malaysia.

“The government has also not concluded discussions on the terms and conditions for licensing to Ascot Sports for bookie operations in Malaysia,” the ministry said in a written reply.

The Ministry also said that was still open to feedbacks from various parties.

Berjaya Corp reported that the government had last month re-issued the licence to Tan after the original licence was cancelled by the previous Abdullah administration. The tycoon’s son — Datuk Robin Tan Yeong Ching — will retain his 30 per cent stake in the company.

Vincent Tan had first obtained the licence in 1987 but had “asked the government to take it back” when the venture was unsuccessful. But he has now obtained the right to get the licence back and was exercising it.

Berjaya Corp, a gaming, property and hospitality group, told Bursa Malaysia on May 12 that it plans to purchase a controlling stake in Ascot Sports, which has been re-issued a conditional sports betting licence by the Finance Ministry.

It said Tan has also agreed to guarantee that the company will make a cumulative net profit of at least RM375 million for the first three years of operation and had backed it by offering to deposit RM81.25 million worth of listed securities while Berjaya Corp will withhold RM125 million cash from the total purchase price.

Berjaya Corp said it will finance the initial consideration of RM400 million by undertaking a renounceable rights issue of up to RM614.46 million nominal value of 10-year eight per cent irredeemable convertible unsecured loan stocks (Iculs), done on the basis of one RM1 nominal value of Iculs for every eight Berjaya Corp shares owned.

It added that Tan has undertaken to subscribe to his and his private companies’ entitlements in full, which would amount to at least RM400 million.

Ascot Sports, which is currently a dormant company, recorded net liabilities and net loss of RM11.2 million and RM4.6 million respectively for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2008.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussein told reporters on May 6 that the government was considering issuing the licence to curb illegal gambling -THE MALAYSIAN INSIDER

IT'S OKAY

Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad does not object to federal government plans to license sports betting because it can help regulate the industry, currently run by underground syndicates.

“With our without a licence, there is a lot of betting going on in this country. The Chinese like to gamble,” he said, at the sidelines of the Melayu Bangkit rally in Kuala Terengganu this morning.

“Without licensing, there is no way to regulate (sports gambling),” he added.

he said the licence would stipulate that sports betting is limited to non-Muslims. As such, Muslims would be deterred from taking part because it will be illegal for them to do so.- MKINI

JOHOR UMNO REJECTS SPORTS BETTING

Johor Umno rejects any form of betting in sports, including the much talked about football betting, said Johor Umno liaison chief Abdul Ghani Othman.

abdul ghani othman bangsa malaysia 061106 talkingSpeaking to reporters after emerging from a liaison meeting which he chaired in Johor Bahru today, Abdul Ghani (left) said the decision was following reaction gathered from the people of Johor.

"We (Johor Umno) received had received a clear reaction and mandate from the people which was to reject any form of betting in sports.

"The people view it as a form of gambling and I believe those involved will listen to the reactions of the people," he said here today.

Abdul Ghani who is also the Johor menteri besar said he would submit the decision (rejection to any form of betting in sports), to the Supreme Council soon.

The government had recently said issuing a licence for betting during the World Cup football finals would help illegal gambling activities in the country that runs into billons of ringgit.

Deputy Finance Minister Awang Adek Hussein had said that if the
government failed to issue a football betting licence, the authorities would not be able to curb illegal gambling activities effectively.

NO TO SPORTS BETTING !

Former national footballer Radhi Mat Din was unveiled as the poster boy for the PAS nation-wide anti-sports betting campaign, at a ceramah at the 56th PAS muktamar in Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan late last night.

radhi mat dinThe Kedah state football coach (right) spoke to the 3000-strong crowd after kicking off the Kelantan-level campaign at the Islamic Tarbiyah Centre where the muktamar is being held.

He decried the federal government's legalisation of sports betting after its failure to curb illegal gambling.

He laments the reduction of the sport into one of profit and loss, saying the focus on money will cause the decline of the game.

"They will bet on everything. Public perception will shift from the quality of the game to what to bet in sports. Games will be orchestrated by the proxies of betting companies turning what is the game of sport into a puppet-show,” he said.

He predicted that players and coaches will in future be bribed with huge amounts of cash for the benefit of certain parties. The problem can only get worse off from there.

The youth will be the most vulnerable, since they constitute 80 percent of sport fans

"What will happen to future generations if the government legalises sports betting? If they fall into this bad habit at a young age, they will be trapped in it until they grow up. In the end, it will result in families of gamblers, who shall form a society of gamblers, and turn us into a nation of gamblers," he added.

Radhi then exhorted the crowd to join the mammoth rally planned for July 3 which will see 100,000 protesters march through Kuala Lumpur to submit a memorandum of protest to the Agong.

He said that the rally is important to pressure the government to ban sports betting, something which will not happen without public support.

"The people of Malaysia must rise and fight this evil," he said.

He also called on former premier Mahathir Mohammad and Abdulah Ahmad Badawi, and opposition leaders Kelantan MB Nik Aziz Nik Mat, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and DAP stalwarts Lim Kit Siang and Karpal Singh to join in the rally.

Yesterday the PAS muktamar passed a resolution condemning sports betting and calling for the federal government not to re-issue the sports betting licence to Ascot Sports.

One of the strategies outlined was to channel the party mechanism and the grassroots into the massive July 3 initiative to make it a success.

PAS is one of the organisations behind the Movement to Ban Gambling (GMJ), the main organiser for the mammoth rally.

FAM & WORLD CUP FEVER

WORLD Cup is about to kick off in less than five days, the passion is building up to feverish levels, spreading like wild fire all over the place from Supermarkets to Shopping malls. Even the Bangsar fish monger Ah Chai was sporting a Germany jersey this morning.

So I asked him siapa akan menang Ah Chai, he said “Germany la boss “

Closer to home, in Kuala Lumpur, another kind of fever is beginning to take shape, its origins traced from the corridors of power in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM). Its elections fever.

Tan Sri Annuar Musa, Datuk Redzuan Sheikh Ahmad, Datuk Raja Ahmad Zainuddin, Datuk Seri Shahidan kassim and Datuk Mokhtar have been nominated for the Deputy President position.

But the grapevine also has it that former FAM Deputy President HRH Tengku Abdullah Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah has received a strong support for the position of Deputy President. Tengku Abdullah resigned in 2006 and YB Khairy Jamaluddin came on board.

It is strongly learnt that Datuk Redzuan’s time in FAM might come to an end, has he does not hold any position in Perlis FA, but then again what about individuals who are holding 5 positions in national association and yet to prove anything.

It is learnt that YB Khairy will not seek for a re-election has he wants to concentrate in his political career.

For Vice President position, it is learnt that Datuk Hamidin from Selangor, Datuk Che Mat Jusoh, Datuk S.Subramaniam have been nominated by the states. Datuk S.Subramaniam the former MIC Deputy President is said to be actively involved in football.

Many other names have been nominated for the various positions, which I will update later...

WRITE THE FUTURE

In an effort to celebrate the global diversity of football this summer, Nike Malaysia launched Nike Cup Kuala Lumpur 2010 in May to inspire youths to compete and be crowned city champions. Calling upon aspiring athletes aged 14 to 19 years old, Nike Cup Kuala Lumpur is a fast paced five-on-five football tournament set against the urban backdrop of Kuala Lumpur’s most recognizable landscapes. The tournament will see more than 12,000 young footballers battle it out for a chance to experience and train in Granja Comary, the Brazilian national team’s home in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

“With a focus on 40 cities in 28 countries, Nike is igniting a global celebration of football as we head into sports biggest event this summer. Nike Cup Kuala Lumpur aims to amplify football with local elements that celebrate the identity of our city and give our youths an unforgettable tournament experience,” said Menaha Nadaraja, Marketing Manager, Nike Malaysia.

Recruitment for the Nike Cup Kuala Lumpur began in early May and is free-of-charge to participants. Players will need to form teams of five to compete in the street-styled tournament without referees or goalkeepers.

The competition is divided into two categories; Under 16 comprising youths aged 14-16 years and Under-19 for participants between 17 – 19 years. The senior team will be battling it out to win the top honour of training in Brazil whilst the junior category can look forward to a three-month training program with the Brasil Futsal Academy in Malaysia.

“To-date, we’ve completed two qualifying zones, Bukit Bintang Plaza rooftop & KL Sentral outdoor car park, that saw over 900 teams comprising 4,500 young footballers took to the courts to earn the right to call themselves the champions of urban football. A total of 120 teams have qualified for the Grand Finals to be held on 3rd July 2010 at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur,” continued Menaha.

A total of four qualifiers will be held at the venues listed below:-
• Bandar Baru Sentul – 5th & 6th June 2010
• Pandan Indah LRT Station – 12th & 13th June 2010
• Stadium Shah Alam – 19th & 20th June 2010
• Pasar Seni LRT Station – 26th & 27th June 2010.

The finals of the Nike Cup Kuala Lumpur 2010 will feature 360 of the best teams across the Klang Valley and will be held alongside the iconic Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad building at Dataran Merdeka on 3rd July 2010. To add to the festivities, footballers who have participated in the tournament will be trested to an outdoor concert headlines by Indonesian band Nidji alongside local artists such as Bunkface, Pesawat and Popshuvit to name a few.

WINDSOR … FIFA’S MAN FOR THE JOB

“I’ve just finished my venue trainings and now await the arrival of the general coordinators.”

This was a message I received from Windsor John Paul on May 29th, 2010 from Johannesburg in South Africa which will play host to earth’s biggest sports spectacle – the WORLD CUP.

From ‘out of favour’ to being the ‘most needed’ official in the preparation and operation of all the ten venues. Early this year Windsor’s name disappeared from the FIFA General Coordinators list.

In September 2009, Windsor surprised everyone by resigning as FIFA’s Development Officer handling the larger part of the Asian region but was still considered as the ‘best’ and most experienced General Coordinator for South Africa.

Than ‘out of the blues’ his name disappeared from the General Coordinators list but Windsor was not perturbed nor was he disappointed by this development.

He took it in his stride when he told me: “I’m just a football administrator and can be replaced.” In early March, when I was having a ‘cuppa tea’ with Windsor in Petaling Jaya, he received a mobile call. For nearly 40 minutes he was in intense conversation.

“FIFA have asked me to be involved in the World Cup but I don’t know under what capacity,” Windsor told me.

But I believe that with the World Cup looming so close, there were things not going well in South Africa and they urgently needed someone with vast “venue” experience to put things right.

And the call to get Windsor John Paul to do the job would have come from none other than Joseph Sepp Blatter, the FIFA president.

To date he has conducted venue staff training for Soccercity, Nelspruit, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban and Polokwane, and a training just for all venue managers. The final two workshops for ten general coordinators and 14 deputy general coordinators will be conducted in the next few days.

He has the unique job of monitoring all the general coordinators involved in the 64 World Cup matches and will assist the venues for high risk matches.

He’s been traveling the length and breadth of South Africa, hopping from one venue to the other, watching test matches and overseeing operations. He has a huge responsibility and FIFA knows that they have the right man in South Africa.

JaiHo would like to wish Windsor, and the other Malaysians in South Africa, Dato Dell Akbar Khan (security), Datuk Dr. Gurucharan Singh (medical) and Cikgu Sukhiddin (referee) all the best.
